I support Rank Choice Voting for many reasons.  First, it eliminates the "wasted vote" syndrome by allowing the voter to choose who he/she thinks is the best candidate for the office without having to be concerned that his/her vote is "wasted" because that candidate belongs to a minor party.  Second, Rank Choice Voting ensures that the winning candidate ends up with majority support; he/she is not a plurality winner (i.e., winning with less than 50% of the total vote).  Third, campaigns in jurisdictions with Rank Choice Voting tend to be more civil and focus more on the issues, because lambasting opponents with negative campaign advertisements is likely to get a candidate who operates that way lower ratings apart from his/her 1st choice voters.  Fourth, Rank Choice Voting (also known as "Instant Runoff Voting") eliminates the need for runoff elections in places that hold them, thus saving taxpayers the cost, and voters the time, of a runoff election.  Fifth, Rank Choice Voting has the potential to usher in a multi-party democracy, and with it, a greater diversity of political perspectives.  This will engage the citizenry, increase election participation, and strengthen our democracy.
